Mariah Carey talks 'timeless' quality of 'All I Want For Christmas Is You' When Mariah Carey penned "All I Want For Christmas Is You" nearly 30 years ago, she never thought it would become the holiday staple that it is today."Did I know? That it would be this anthem? No, I didn't," she admitted to KTLA 5's Sam Rubin. "Normally, when people ask me questions, like the 'did you know?' type thing, I pretty much say 'Yeah, I knew, I had an idea.' "With this, I didn't know. It was the first Christmas song I'd ever written. I just wanted it to be real to me like to my little girl self. It was like, what are the things I think about Christmas? What did I not want? What did I wish for? You know, all that kind of stuff."Mariah Carey sat down with KTLA 5's Sam Rubin to talk about her upcoming Merry Christmas One and All tour and more. The Merry Christmas One and All tour heads to the Hollywood Bowl on Nov. 17 and 19.This segment aired on the KTLA 5 Morning News on Nov. 8, 2023. Frankie Valli says he has no plans of this being his final concert tour

Frankie Valli says he has no plans of this being his final concert tour Despite what you may have heard, Frankie Valli isn’t ready to say goodbye.“You know? Everybody is thinking that it is my last tour,” says the 89-year-old New Jersey native, who now calls Southern California home. “And I don’t know when my last tour is, personally. If I can continue to do this, as long as I’m not feeling ill, I’ll do it.”Perhaps some of the confusion comes from this tour’s title – The Last Encores – which definitely sounds like something that would be used to mark a last hurrah. Yet, Valli says he’s not waving farewell to touring, but rather his intention is simply dial back some on the road work.“After this year, we will slow down on the amount of things that we do,” he says. “Instead of 70 or 80 or 90 things a year, we will probably cut it down to like 30 or 35.”Yet, why wait for future tours when you still see Valli on this one? The famed singer and his Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group, the Four Seasons, are set to perform on Nov. 12 at the San Jose Civic. Showtim...

Stanford preps for run-heavy No. 12 Beavers

Stanford preps for run-heavy No. 12 Beavers After playing pass-first offenses in Washington and Washington State, Stanford fifth-year linebacker Tristan Sinclair is looking forward to facing a different kind of challenge when the Cardinal travel to No. 12 Oregon State Saturday (2:30 p.m. Pac-12 Network). The Beavers (7-2, 4-2) are 15th nationally at 5.21 rushing yards per attempt, and Damien Martinez is second in the Pac-12 at 97.6 rushing yards a game.“Every week you have to adapt,” Sinclair said. “We’re facing a big running back and a big-time running game, and that’s just part of the job. As a linebacker, we’re excited to play this team. It’s fun when teams run the ball. It gets boring when it’s all spread out and we’re always just running to the perimeter and chasing down receivers, so we’re juiced up for this one.”The defense has another reason to be excited – in its previous game, a 10-7 win at Washington State, it held an opponent to seven points for the first time since the 2019 season opener against Northwestern. The C...

Americans say the economy stinks. But they’re spending like it’s great

Americans say the economy stinks. But they’re spending like it’s great New York (CNN) — There’s a conundrum that economists and political strategists have been chewing on for more than a year: The economy is good, but Americans say it’s lousy.Despite all kinds of positive news on inflation (it’s slowing), the job market (best in a generation) and consumer spending (still robust!), Americans can’t seem to shake their despair, at least whenever they answer calls from pollsters. In a CNN poll released Tuesday night, 72% of all Americans say things in the country today are going badly, and 66% said the economy will be “extremely important” when deciding who to vote for next year. But just 2% of voters say the economy is excellent, according to a separate New York Times-Siena College poll released earlier this week. That could be a big problem for Democrats trying to peddle Bidenomics. (although Democrats put up a pretty strong showing in Tuesday’s elections.)But there’s a conundrum within the conundr...

Wins in local races will disrupt Michigan, Pennsylvania Democrats’ full control of state government

Wins in local races will disrupt Michigan, Pennsylvania Democrats’ full control of state government LANSING, Mich. (AP) — Michigan and Pennsylvania will emerge from the Tuesday elections with House legislative chambers evenly split between Republicans and Democrats in yet another sign of how narrowly divided the two swing states have become. The change will be at least temporary after House members in the states were elected to other offices and will need to resign from the legislatures.Michigan Democrats who have controlled the governor’s office and slim majorities in both chambers of the Legislature will lose their full control after two state representatives won mayoral races. Democrats who have clung to a one-seat majority in the Pennsylvania House will soon see the chamber return to a 101-101 tie after a suburban Philadelphia incumbent was elected district judge.Democrats have been able to push through a number of key pieces of legislation in Michigan since they flipped both chambers in the Legislature while holding onto the governor’s office in last year’s midterms, giving t...

NC State QB MJ Morris won’t play again this season, opting to redshirt, his father says RALEIGH, N.C. (AP) — The father of North Carolina State starting quarterback MJ Morris says his son will not play the rest of this season and take a redshirt year while staying with the Wolfpack.Eddie Morris told WRAL-TV of the decision on Tuesday. He said his son, a sophomore, had plenty of options had he decided to transfer but would have done that already if that was his desire.Under NCAA rules, a player is allowed to participate in four games while preserving the option to take a redshirt year.Morris was elevated to the starting role on Oct. 2, after the Wolfpack struggled offensively with Virginia transfer Brennan Armstrong at quarterback. He’s guided N.C. State (6-3, 3-2 Atlantic Coast Conference) to three wins in four starts — including wins against Clemson and Miami — while throwing seven touchdown passes and five interceptions.Coach Dave Doeren said when making the change he hoped Morris would provide an offensive spark, and he did, leading the Wolfpack to a 48-41 vict...
